Many destructive wildfires begin with human activity rather than natural ignition. Sources vary by place and include spark-generating work, agricultural burning, electrical and transport infrastructure, recreation, household flames, deliberate fire-setting, and illegal land clearing.
The core problem is a mismatch between ignition-producing activities and the weather, fuel, and enforcement conditions in which they occur. Generic public warnings do not address these operational causes equally.
This issue covers preventable human ignition only. Lightning and other natural sources are out of scope.
