Gill Nets are not a solution

#00129

Gill nets cause unnecessary harm to sharks and other wildlife while failing to reduce local shark presence, since sharks are highly migratory and have no fixed territory. Healthy shark populations are essential for balanced ecosystems.

Description

Gill nets do not reduce the number of sharks in an area — sharks are highly migratory and have no fixed territory. These nets kill sharks and other wildlife, impacting populations locally and globally.

Sharks are apex predators that regulate mid-level predator populations and herbivore behaviour. Without them, herbivores overgraze coral and seagrass areas, degrading ecosystems at both local and global scales.
