Continuity of external support across multiple dry seasons is a prerequisite for sustained prevention outcomes.
Lessons learned
- Community patrol teams are more effective when hydrological management, land tenure, and livelihood incentives are addressed together — programmes addressing only one dimension showed weaker results.
- Short-term project funding cycles undermine peat-fire prevention, which requires continuity across repeated dry seasons; multi-year funding commitments are a prerequisite.
