Description

Independent evaluation confirmed that coupling DETER alerts with active enforcement operations reduced deforestation rates, establishing a replicable model for satellite-triggered field enforcement.
Lessons learned
- Satellite alerts only reduce clearing when they are routed to an enforcement body with the legal authority and operational capacity to act on them quickly.
- Monitoring effectiveness must be evaluated in conjunction with enforcement capacity and political continuity — without both, alert systems do not translate to outcomes.
